The Avenida da Liberdade is Lisbons Boardwalk (Mayfair for British Monopoly players). This is not just a street with expensive shops, but also with expensive hotels. Just behind it, you will find the Rua da Glória. This is not really a good neighborhood, but the police office is around the corner, so it is not too bad. Here you’ll find a couple of cheap hotels. Other comfortable small pensions and hotels you will find in the Rua Portas de Santo Antao next to the Rossio and parallel to the Avenida da Liberdade. But whereever you are, in the Chiado district, in the Baixa or in the Bairro Alto, there are always some hidden small pensions and hotels to discover.
