Puerto Ordaz Travel GuideEdit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see
Puerto Ordaz cannot be classified as a major tourist attraction but it is the transport hub for the eastern part of Venezuela. Plenty of flights everyday from Caracas. Rapid transport to Ciudad Bolivar just one hour and half away. And from the other side of the river, shared taxis will whisk you away to Tucupita, the capital of the state in which the Delta of River Orinoco lies. From Tucupita, one can organize tours which tend to be expensive or organize your own trips, there are plenty of people willing to take you around. Volcan is the port of departure.
There are a couple of things to visit at Puerto Ordaz, you can visit the park called "La Llovizna" which has a really beautiful waterfall and it's 10 minutes away from downtown. In front of "La Llovizna" there is a big dam, and the "ecomuseum". Also you can visit the Cachamay Park that has smaller waterfalls, a large road to walk, , and some friendly monkeys at the top of a really huge trees. If you don't have your own car to travel to these places, arrange with the taxi driver a meeting point and hour because you will hardly find a taxi at the park entrances.
There are sights within a days travel of Puerto Ordaz, the meeting of the river caroni and orinoco, the town of barrancas, "La Gran Sabana", "Salto Angel", and further downstream are other towns of historic importance.
At every small town along this river, there are volunteers Cuban physicians working hard to improve the health conditions of the Venezuelan poor. It is rather commendable.
