Getting There in Maracay
Edit ThisFrom Maiquetia airport to get to any destination in Vzla you must get to Caracas: have to ask for TERMINAL DE PASAJERO LA BANDERA. To get there you can use a Taxi, which it's not very expensive, ask for prices and ALWAYS try to negociate with drivers!!!, or you can catch a Bus, very cheap but not very comfortable at all.
Once you have reached LA BANDERA you can choose between several buses compañy, some of them awful and others much better with air condition and non-stop travels. ALWAYS USE FANCY BUSES FOR YOUR SAFETY the cheap buses may broke down in the highway, you can get robbed, police always stops it for checking, and the driver sometimes is drunk or exahusted for extra work (i'm damn serious, not kidding). There is another very nice bus called AEROEXPRESOS EJECUTIVOS but you have to reach a placed called LA CASTELLANA (downtown Caracas) it's a little bit expensive but it works like an airlines with its own terminals all over the country. but it's really really good (there's people in Vzla who actually use this way of transportation between cities even if they own a car!!! Remember there are no train yet in Vzla).
Once you reach Maracay, at the private terminal of AEROEXPRESOS or at the public terminal, take a cab to or a bus to a mall called CENTRO COMERCIAL LAS AMERICAS, from there you can go anywhere in town and you have Hotel Italo and Eurobuilding really close, calling center, cyber places, banks, drugstore etc...
To reach CHORONI go to Las Americas and ask to a person who is in charge of dispatch costumers to the taxis (the one with a 3 radio 2 cell phone 4 bipers etc..) for a ride to Choroní, the standard price is 20$, (about 40.000/50.000 Bolivares now in 2005) and insist for a cab with air conditioning. If you prefer a bus, catch it right at the public terminal, but there are only old buses, no air conditiones, and it's a very long travel because the road is very narrow and curvy.
I always recommend Taxi because it's a very popular business in Vzla, that's why you will see a millon cab all over town, and that's why is so cheap. They don't have taximeter so it's all about negociate with the driver, generally with 2$ (5.000Bs.) you can go anywhere inside Maracay, Caracas it's more expensive.
