Maracaibo Lake Travel Guide

Lake Maracaibo is not, in the true sense, a lake as it has an entrance to the Caribbean.  Due to this the water is a mixture of sea and fresh water. All of the oil exported from Maracaibo, from local oil refineries, leaves on oil carrying tanker ships on its journey to the US and other oil importing countries.
