Located in the Department of Tumbes in the extreme northwestern part of Peru, Tumbes is a city of 110,000 people. Tumbes is close to the Equator, so it is always hot, often 40 degrees Celcius (104F), and humid. It rains a lot, but it always stays hot. A good time for tourists to visit is September 21-27 during Tumbes Tourist Week.
