La Tortuga
Edit ThisThis is a very poor village, living mostly from artisanal fishing. That's about all they eat too. A good place to volunteer, I'd say.
The village is blessed with a wonderful beach though. When you get down to the beach where the boats are parked, take to the right. Keep walking, untill you see a cave. Get inside the cave and pass through it. This gets you to a completely secluded and huge other beach. If you like your beaches nice and tranquil, here it is.
There is no hotel in town, but someone will surely be willing to host you.
A few miles out of town, there is another natural harbour with a pebbled beach. You could take a mototaxi to get there. It's a good place to see the fishermen in action, most of them on a small wooden raft without a sail. It's a great place for a picnic, as the pebbles won't get stuck in you're sandwich like sand does. Another reasen to come here is a hidden bird colony. Arriving on the beach, keep to the left. You'll have to do a little climing and watch out for falling bird dung. But at the end of the line you'll get a wonderfull close up view of the bird colony. A completely deserted beach lies under them. It's pretty much unreachable because of a combination of a rather wild sea, rocks and cliffs, but that's a good thing. Respect the birds!
