Getting There
Edit This
The beautiful journey to Manu from Cusco (by road) crosses the crest of the Andes, where travelers can see the dawn over the Amazon from the Tres Cruces lookout, to then descend through all ecological levels of the jungle to the great Amazon plain itself. Visitors enter the National Park by boat on the Manu river and stay in tourist lodges or camp on the river banks.
From Cuzco : tourists hire transport in Atalaya (10 hours) or Shintuya (13 hours), or Itahuania (14 hours) then travel by motorized launch to Boca Chica (8 hours) and the Manu Park (8 hours further). Flights in chartered light planes from Cuzco to Boca Manu. There are occasional public boats from Atalaya, Shintuya and Itahuania but it is not guaranteed. You might have to charter the boat yourself.
