Día de la Canción Criolla -- Criolla Music Day

Edit This

In the United States Halloween is a big celebration for October 31.  But while Peruanos know about Halloween, and some children even trick-or-treat among family, it is not largly celebrated.  However, October 31 is a very popular holiday in Peru, especially on the coast, called "El Día de la Canción Criolla", or Criolla Music Day.

Criolla Music Day was designated to celebrate Peruvian music and folklore in 1944.  Local music is celebrated in Lima and other parts of Peru (mostly on the coast).  The best known is Marinera, a music and dance that is a very important part of Peruvian culture, and sometimes considered the national dance.  Peruvian waltz, polka and other music are also included in traditional music in the celebration.
