A small and dusty town, which is the end for most hiking tours in the canyon. Stock up with water before going down into the canyon.

Coming from Cruz del Condor you can either take a bus or walk the way to Cabanaconde. If you walk, follow the street until a point where water crosses the road. ThereĀ“s a small house on the right side and behind the little wall you will see a small water channel. Here you can leave the street and follow the channel along the hillside (through the little tunnel as well). At the big water basin turn right, follow the way down the hill and then left to Cabanaconde.

To walk down to Savalle (also known as the oasis), a little green paradise at the bottom of the canyon, takes you 2,5 hrs and is a steep descent. There a 3 lodges (Eden, Oasis and Paradiso), each with swimming pool and set menus for lunch and dinner, you sleep in very basic bemboo huts. Paradiso seems to be the best choice with the nicest pool. To walk back is hard work of 3 to 4 hrs, depending on your fitness, although we heard rumors that locals do it in less than one hour! Leave early in the moring or late in the afternoon to avoid the sun.

Buses back to Arequipa leave from the plaza at 7, 8, 9, 10:30, 11:15am and 1, 2, 8, 9, 10pm and cost about 5$.
