Plant a tree!

Edit This

A charity-run ecotourism project supporting reforestation and the local community offers basic farmstays in family homes in a poor agricultural area of great natural beauty.   The farmstay price includes bed, breakfast & planting a tree.

Eco-tourists plant one tree for each day of their stay - how else could your visit leave an environmental benefit that could last for 30 or 40 years?

As well as tree-planting, you can also go trekking, bird-watching, rafting and horseriding.

Watch Hummingbirds

Edit This

Mindo is a great place for watching hummingbirds as most of the hotels put out feeders for them.  This makes it easier to photograph them.  You can also see hummingbirds in most other parts of Ecuador, even in the middle of Quito.

One undeveloped area where you can see several types of hummingbird is San Luis de Pambil, in Bolivar Province in the warmer, lower part of the province.  CRACYP, a local reforestation charity, has a photo gallery to give you some idea of some of the hummingbirds you might see in Ecuador.

Hummingbird viewing

Edit This

Hummingbirds are found all over Ecuador.  Mindo is one of the easiest places to see them, also San Luis de Pambil and Piedra Blanca.  You don't need to be an expert birdwatcher, just relax and watch hummingbirds flit around you.
