Pululahua Crater
Edit ThisA must see place near La Mitad del Mundo. You can take a bus from La Mitad del Mundo or a taxi for $2.50 to "El Mirador". From El Mirador you can walk down to the crater, it takes about 30 minutes and it is a very steep ride. If you stay on the left hand side of the trail, you will get to the Pululahua Hosta. This little cozy hostal is an inexpensive place where you can stay and explore the crater by horse, by bike, or simply by foot. The cabana are very confortable and the food is great, they even have vegetarian plates. Most of their food is organic and is produced in the hacienda. The horses are well fed and very well behaved.
The crater is a Geobotanical Reserve of 8000 acres and is a very special place for those interested in a bit of fresh air and quiet, not many people visit the crater because it is difficult to get to, but it is worth the effort.
