Pululahua Crater

A must see place near La Mitad del Mundo.  You can take a bus from La Mitad del Mundo or a taxi for $2.50 to "El Mirador".  From El Mirador you can walk down to the crater, it takes about 30 minutes and it is a very steep ride.  If you stay on the left hand side of the trail, you will get to the Pululahua Hosta.  This little cozy hostal is an inexpensive place where you can stay and explore the crater by horse, by bike, or simply by foot.  The cabana are very confortable and the food is great, they even have vegetarian plates.  Most of their food more..

The Equator

The equator is a key part of Ecuador's national identity and even the name of the country. 

The Mitad del Mundo tourist complex to the north of Quito is the usual visitor destination and it is very touristy, but easy to reach.  Buses pass right outside for independent travellers, or many Quito agents arrange tours here, often combined with Pululahua Volcano and Geobotanic Reserve which is just a few minutes drive away.
