Day Trips in Galapagos islands
Edit This
Wherever you decide to stay on the Galapagos, making day trips to different islands is never more than a short boat ride away.
San Cristóbal Island
The Wreck Bay at San Cristóbal Island is the only recommended beach in the whole island for sunbathing. When visiting San Cristóbal Island, make sure to check out Kicker Rock (León Dormido), a gigantic rock formation located in the middle of the ocean, northeast of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. This island is a great spot for birdwatching enthusiasts because they will find blue-footed boobies, frigates, and pelicans.
Santa Cruz Island
Santa Cruz Island has great tourism facilities, making its main city,Santa Cruz, the most populated city in the Galapagos Islands. On Santa Cruz Island, you will find the city ofPuerto Ayora, home of the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Station. At the Galapagos National Park you can observe about 2,000 Galapagos turtles (to which this chain of Islands owes its name) in their natural state.
Isabela Island
Isabela Island is the biggest of all islands, even if you put them all together. This island is home of the tallest volcano in the Galapagos Islands, Wolf. One of the main tourist attractions is the hike towards the Sierra Negra volcano, allowing you to see to observe the climate and vegetation changes as you ascend from 0 to 1,100 meters above sea level. Make sure to bring sunblock lotion, water, comfortable shoes and a hat.
Floreana Island
Floreana Island is rich in history. Here's an example: Post Office Bay owes it name to a wooden barrel on the beach that served as a mailbox for sailors traveling through the area. The key areas at Floreana Island are: Punta Cormoran (a beautiful beach inhabited by sea lions), a beach for witnessing turtles as they lay their eggs (during season) and Corona del Diablo, a partially submerged volcano.
Española Island
Española Island's main attraction is La Chocolatera, a lava reef where the foam of the waves seems to come out firing in the direction of heaven. Gardener Bay holds a white sand beach, formed by crushed coral and reef and frequented by sea lions.
Bartolome Island
Bartolome Island has the honor of having the most beautiful panoramic view from the top of its highest point. On one of its beaches, you can swim side by side with penquins. Always pay attention to posted signs because there are some beaches where sharks can be found.
Santiago Island
Last but not least, Santiago Island has James Bay, a black sand beach where you have two great options. You can either visit a pond with sea lions, hawks and herons, or surrounded with flamingos.
