Aluasi - railway town Travel Guide

Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see

Alausi is an attractive highland town around two hours by bus from Riobamba, with a statue of patron saint St. Peter watching over the town from a hilltop.  The climate is often cold and cloudy especially in the rainy season.

The main feature of the town is its location at the top of the "Devil's Nose", a very steep section of Ecuador's only railway line, constructed around a hundred years ago.  The trainline zigzags backwards and forwards past dramatic mountainside views to negotiate the gradient.  The Devil's Nose (Nariz del Diablo) train-ride is often listed as one of Ecuador's tourist highlights.
