La Feria de las Flores -The Festival of Flowers

The best known event that takes place in Medellin is the Festival of Flowers, each year from August 1st through August 7th the city celebrates with many activities one of the most important business sectors in Colombia, the cut flower business. Currently Colombia supplies around 70% of the flowers imported by the USA.

During that week there are a variety of themed parades, the horse parade, the old car parade, the desfile de los silleteros (flower carrier parade) that should not be missed. Plus many other activities in and around the city such as; concerts, recitals, the orchid and flower exhibition at the Jardin Botanico. If you plan to attend the desfile de los silleteros held in downtown, you better get there very early to grab a front row spot. It's worth it!
