Getting There

Edit This
Here there are a few choices:

1. fly to Guapi (via Satena from Medellín or Bogota) and from Guapi rent a motor boat which should take you to the island in around 5 hrs. The prize for renting the boats depends on the boat’s capacity (usually 10 to 15 people), not on the size of your group, so if you’re traveling with a small party, it will be more expensive. Call: (92825) 7137 - 7136 for more info.

2. From Buenaventura (easily reached by bus) catch a barco de cabotaje in the Piñal dock, Muelle del Piñal. These are cargo and passenger boats that travel daily from Buenaventura to Olaya Herrera (also known as Satinga) and they’ll detour from their route to drop you off in Gorgona. The trip is around 10 – 12 hrs. Call: (9224) 46089 - 46106 – 46091 to make reservations, or negotiate upon arrival in Buenaventura.

In both cases, its wise to pack your bag/backpack in plastic as it will most likely travel on deck and will be drenching wet by the time you reach Gorgona.

Finally, diving centers in Cali, Medellin and Bogotá frequently organize diving trips to the island, and this is also an option if you’re short on time and/or would rather have an experienced agent take care of the logistics. However, the island is worth the long trip every bit. And the trip itself can be very fun, off the beaten track. Buena suerte!
