Day Trips in CaliEdit This
Back to Nature
When the heat of the city gets too much, visitors can take a local bus out to the Ecoparque del Rio Pance. This nature reserve is just 12 kilometers from the center of Cali, but feels a world removed. Nature trails, natural swimming pools and lush vegetation can all be found here - there's camping should you be reluctant to return the same day. A little further out, San Cipriano is a natural beauty spot with roaring rivers and waterfalls, perfect for splashing around and keeping cool. To get here, take a bus out to Cordoba and take the little rail car out - this is a fun trip in itself, with the open cars trundling through beautiful scenery.
Life's a Beach
There are several good beaches to be found within a few hours' drive of Cali. While they are hardly comparable with those of Colombia's Caribbean coast, these beaches are popular with surfers and are a good way to escape the sticky heat, which can feel oppressive in summer. Most can be reached via Buenaventura, which lies some three hours from Cali by bus. As Buenaventura is not the safest of areas, take care in and around the bus station. Boats are available to take tourists out to the beautiful beaches around Juanchaco - famous for its whales and dolphins. Ladrilleros is around half an hour's walk from Juanchaco and has a long, sandy beach and several budget accommodation options for travelers looking to stay overnight.
