Beaches
Edit ThisVina del Mar, Spanish for Vineyard of the Sea, is also known as La Ciudad Jardin or Garden City. It is in Chile and is most known for its beautiful beaches. The beaches here are beautiful but watch out because the water is cold; the Humboldt Current comes up from the ocean and gives the water a chill.
Playa Negra
Playa Negra is a bit far to walk to from Vina del Mar but there is very good public transportation that will take you there if you don’t have a car. The waves are moderate and the sand is fine and a dark color from the volcanic minerals. There aren’t many amenities at this beach but it is still a nice place to visit.
Playa Amarilla
Playa Amarilla is an urban beach that has a nice promenade and restaurants galore. It is pretty crowded with visitors as well as locals.
Playa Cochoa
Playa Cochoa is a protected by a small peninsula making the waters safe for swimming. There are a lot of restaurants and shellfish bars right across the street.
Playa Renaca
Playa Renaca has been around since the 60’s and is popular all year round. There are local craft stalls where you can buy art from locals and the restaurants, cafes, shops, and discotheques seem endless. The beach is separated into sectors including a family zone and El Cementerio, the place where everyone goes to be seen.
Playa Salinas
You will stay safe and sound at Playa Salinas as this beach is safe for those with very young children.
Playa Los Lilenes
Playa Los Lilenes is a small beach that is family friendly. It is protected from winds and large waves from the surrounding rocks, but beware of the undercurrents that can catch swimmers off guard.
Playa Caleta Abarca
Playa Caleta Abarca has a cove that gives this beach the reputation of being a safe beach. There are children’s playgrounds and pretty gardens along with a discotheque.
Playa Los Marineros
Playa Los Marineros has a playground and is the perfect place to do some sun bathing or fishing but don’t plan on swimming here as the currents are very strong and dangerous.
Playa Acapulco
Playa Acapulco is a long strip beach with gentle waves. There are beautiful gardens behind the beach that warrant a walk through.
Playa Mirasol
Playa Mirasol has a walkway with gardens mixed in and watch out for roller skaters as the roads are pretty even and smooth. Many street vendors set up tents in order to sell their hand crafts here.
So you can see you can visit a different beach every day in Vina del
Mar and still not see them all. This makes it a great vacation
destination for beach lovers.
