Another option is to use long distance bus lines. If coming from Buenos Aires, it is possible to use modern buses with "servicio cama" (a comfortable reclining bed) or "semi-cama" (similar to air first class) from the Retiro bus depot in Buenos Aires to Mendoza, a city famous for its wines, next to the Andes mountains. For example ANDESMAR leaves Buenos Aires in the evening every hour starting at 6:30 PM. "Servicio cama" is about 115 Argentine pesos, about US$39.28 and "servicio semi-cama" is AR$95.00, about US$32.45.  The 6:30PM bus from Retiro in Buenos Aires arrives in Mendoza next day at 8:24 AM.

Then from Mendoza, a similar bus from ANDESMAR, TUR-BUS or CATA, are available for the Andes crossing to Santiago. Highly recommended to appreciate the beauty of the Andes mountains and admire the magnificent Anconcagua mountain, the tallest mountain in the world after the Himalayas, about 6962 meters or 22,841 feet high. The trip for the Andes crossing is about 5 hours and about US$20.00.
