Punta Arenas cruises offer two main destinations, one being Antarctica and the other is Tierra del Fuego. Punta Arenas is a city found at one of the most southern points of Chile and is frequently the main point of departure for tourism and scientific trips to Antarctica. This is a great way to see some spectacular scenery and visit the islands along the coast of Chile. There are some gorgeous national parks to visit and you are right in the middle of the lakes district and mountains.

Via Australis cruises is one of the main cruise lines that uses Punta Arenas as a main port. You can travel down to Antarctica on the end of the world cruise. You can depart from Punta Arenas and travel across, lakes, fjords, stop at islands and see glaciers all along the Tierra del Fuego. There are cruises that take you to Argentina. You can even get close to the Serrano iceberg and see the Darwin mountain range. You can cruise through some famous channels such as the Beagle and Magdalena and visit the most southern city in Chile, Puerto Williams.

Port of Call

Punta Arenas is also a major port of call for many larger South American cruises as most of the Holland American cruises stop here. You can stop along many different countries and cities in South America as these cruises tend to depart in New York or Florida and terminate in Argentina. Silversea offers two cruises from Santiago to Argentina that stop at Punta Arenas. Celebrity cruises also stop here on the way to Buenos Aires. Princess cruise lines offers an Antarctica and South American cruise with a stop at Punta Arenas. Other cruise companies that stop at the city include Seabourn, Voyages of Discovery, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania cruises and Crystal cruises. These cruise ships tend to be very large as they are for cruises that last about a month if not longer.

Day Cruises

There are several day cruises available as well to take in the local scenery. Enjoy a full-day cruise in the Lake District. You will go through the Petrohue National Park, Esmerelda Lake and Lake Llanquihue. There are gorgeous cruises that explore the Otway sound where you can visit a penguin sanctuary. The Magellan penguins live here and can be seen between the months of November to March. You can stop off at Magdalena Island and cruise to other islands. However, cruise schedules do vary depending on the season and the current weather conditions so it is best to call ahead.
