Edit ThisWith the opening of the way between Lages and Tubarão, for 1773 return, initiated the povoamento of the city. The river Tubarão was part of the Lages/Laguna route, having as breakpoint the ports of the "Deep Well" and the "Great Well", both in the region of the current Tubarão. In August of 1774, two sesmarias, situated in the current urban perimeter, had been donated to captain João of the Moreira Coast and to the sergeant-mor Jacinth Jaques Nicós, marking the effective beginning of the povoamento. In 1833 already the district of Great Well of the River Tubarão existed and in 1836 Lady of the Mercy of Tubarão was created the Parish of Ours. Tubarão was desmembrou of Lagoon in May of 1870. Européia immigration, the implantation of the road-of-iron Owner Thereza Christina and the creation of the judicial district of Tubarão, in 1875, had been responsible right-handers for the economic development of the city.
