Rio de Janeiro (City Guide) (Paperback)
Edit This
This guide of the city of Rio de Janeiro by Regis St. Louis is very well written. Regis is an avid traveler and has worked in several guide for Lonely Planet. His skilled tourism journalism skills really show through the pages of the Rio de Janeiro City Guide published by Lonely Planet. One of the most useful features of this city guide is the breakdown of Rio de Janeiro into neighborhoods and the presented schedule builder on page 62.
A Smart Approach to Reviewing Rio de Janeiro
Regis approach to Rio de Janeiro is to divide it into 10 regions and provide specific tips for shopping, eating, drinking and sleeping for each one of regions. The level of detailed is quite refreshing. Readers will enjoy his listing of facts, anecdotes and stories from the Barra Da Tijuca and West of Rio, which is the newest side of Rio de Janeiro.
Not Enough About Nightlife
However, readers will find the nightlife section, standing at just a bit over 10 pages, quite disappointing. Regis could do a better work at listing more place off the beaten path. Any local carioca would take a look at his list of nightclubs and start asking about why this one and that one were not listed. The nightlife of Rio de Janeiro is quite diverse and there are plenty of events and places that are not listed.
An Overall Good Book
Despite its short account on local nightlife, the Rio de Janeiro (City Guide) by Regis is still a good read. A plus for this paperback edition is that it is easy to carry around, and the book layout and design are sturdy. Make sure to look for this book on the used section of Amazon.
