Guaruja is a beautiful city about 100km from Sao Paulo, and a ferry ride from Santos. The city gets very crowed in the summer, but even the warm winters are great there. Worth a visit on New Years eve. A big gathering on the beaches at midnight to see in the coming year with LOUD fireworks, and see the ritual of placing offerings, wine, candles, flowers etc. to the spirits.
