Shopping in Florianopolis

Edit This
Shopaholics heading to Florianopolis will not be disappointed. The city center is home to some modern malls and chic boutiques, as well as colorful indoor and outdoor markets, and there are locally-produced handicrafts to be found at shops and stalls across Ilha da Santa Catarina. Self-caterers and those heading off for beach picnics and parties will find well-stocked supermarkets and grocery stores across the island, and there are plentiful opportunities to pick up touristy nick-knacks as keepsakes or presents for the folks back home.

City Center Shopping

For fashion finds and essentials such as bikinis, head for Shopping Centre Beiramar, at Avenida Beiramar in the city center. Along with cinemas, bars, cafes and restaurants, the modern shopping mall is chock full of high street names such as C&A and Mercatto, as well as some small boutiques and specialist stores selling everything from cachaca (Brazilian sugar cane rum) to home furnishings.

Bargain Hunt

Shoppers looking for bargains in Florianopolis should make a beeline for the Mercado Publico, at Rua Conselheiro Mafra, where it's possible to haggle over everything from sunglasses and sarongs to vintage vinyl. There are some decent old and new fashion finds here, but be prepared to invest some time if you want to find the best bargains. Nearby, the Casa da Alfandega is home to many stalls selling local arts and crafts.

Shopping for Souvenirs

The many beach resorts that dot the island are good places to find presents and souvenirs of your visit to Florianopolis. Hats, t-shirts and beach towels emblazoned with the Brazil flag or the name of the city or resort are easy to find, and Havaianas - cool and colourful Brazilian flip flops - make cheap and chic presents. At prices far lower than overseas, you might want to treat yourself to a few pairs too!
