Bars and Cafes in FlorianopolisEdit This
City Center Bars and Cafes
While locals and tourists alike tend to use the name Florianopolis to refer to the whole of Ilha da Santa Catarina, the city itself is in fact split between the mainland and the island, and joined by two connecting bridges. Most visitors will have little call to visit the mainland section of Florianopolis city, but the island half of the city has a lively bar and cafe scene. Particularly lively after 5pm is the city's vast public market, which sees many of its stalls transformed into bustling bars. Box 32, at the center of the indoor market, is lively well into the small hours, and serves delicious fresh fish dishes to soak up the ever-flowing alcohol. Pavement cafe culture is very much alive and kicking in the city center, and during the summer months of December through to February, visitors can take their pick from any number of pleasant spots for a drink and light bite.
Ilha da Santa Catarina is dotted with over 40 beaches, most of which boast at least a couple of relaxed spots serving cool beers and fresh seafood. The family-friendly resort of Praia dos Ingleses has plenty of cheap and cheerful pizza and burger joints by the bay, while popular backpacker spots like Joaquina, Barra da Lagoa and Mole have good snack bars and plenty of informal beach bars. If staying in Bara da Lagoa, don't miss an opportunity to sample the delicious pastries served at the many snack bars along Rua Altimiro Barcelos Dutra. Oven-baked, wholemeal and stuffed with wonderfully fresh veggies, cheese and meat and/or seafood, these are a great option for budget travelers. Praia Mole is one of the liveliest spots on the island for partiers, and the many beach bars throng with young travelers and locals during the summer high season. Things are quieter during the winter months, when the beach bars shut down and nightlife action shifts to the city center.
