Mar del Plata is an Argentine city located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the Buenos Aires Province, 400 km south of Buenos Aires. Mar del Plata is one of the major fishing ports, and the biggest seaside beach resort in Argentina. With a population of 541,733 (2001 census), it is the 7th largest urban area in Argentina. . Mar del Plata has sohpisticated tourist infrastructure to cater to the industry and as such, casinos, theatres and other tourist attractions are all located there." . Of special interest to the visitor are Argentina's leading brand of Alfajores -- Havanna --- which originate from Mar Del Plata. Havanna's started operation in 1947 and has its head office and main base of operations is here. .
