Things to do in Buenos Aires
Edit ThisThe country of Argentina has so many fabulous places to go, but the destination at the top of the list has got to be Buenos Aires. Things to Do in this city range from spending time in luxury within the center of this metropolitan city to ranging out towards the exciting activities that await on the fringe. All through the year the city is favored with a variety of festivals and dance exhibitions. Within the city you can witness the structures that have been influenced by modern art. Or you can visit places, like on the south side, that have old historic buildings still preserved from ages past.
Buenos Aires Free ToursBuenos Aires Free Tours is a great way to roam about the city and get some good ideas of where you want to start searching. This is a must-do event as a newcomer, and it is absolutely free. You get to walk around while having a fun time learning the customs and secrets of this wonderful city. There are 2 tours daily, one at 11am and one at 5pm.
Delta Tigre ExcursionOne of the most exciting activities you can do here is go on a Delta Tigre Excursion. There are touring companies that have them, or your hotel can set one up. Either way, they are a blast. You start off on a local delta boat, manned by local rivermen who take you through the delta to the island. Then you go on a short hike to get the natural feel of the life in the delta. At the end of the hike, you have a local barbecue called "asado." Then you take your return trip back. This is a great way to spend a day.
Plaza de MayoThis main square of the city has quite an interesting history behind it, and has always been a major tourist attraction to those visiting. One main reason is that this area has for decades been the place where mass demonstrations have been held. These demonstrations have evolved around both social and political issues. Plus some major buildings are situated around its perimeter, like the Casa Rosada and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenas Aires.
Calle Florida and Avienda AlvearA large number of the tourists that come to Buenos Aires come here to shop. It is nicknamed the "Paris of the South," and rightfully so. These two particular shopping areas are full of shops and boutiques. All of the international fashions are represented here. You could easily spend a day or so shopping or just strolling around checking out the merchandise.
Festival Internacional del TangoThis highly acclaimed event gains recognition from all over the world. The festival is held during the middle of March, so if you are in Buenos Aires during that time, you must check it out. Tango clubs and schools from all over the world compete against each other, and the nightclubs and streets are filled with all sorts of participants dancing. And if you happen to miss it, check out one of the tango nightclubs to get a good idea of the passion Buenos Aires has for the Tango.
