Bus transport in Buenos Aires
Edit ThisThe best way to get a real touch of Buenos Aires is to take one of the thousands of "collectivos", the local buslines. They make a hell of a noise, so you should be able to recognize them easily. To make a busdriver stop for you you'll have to indicate clearly that you want him/her to stop, otherwise they simply ignore you.
A passage from A to B costs you (depending on the distance of course) normally 80 centavos (0,8 pesos). To pay you need cash, because you'll have to put your coins in a machine, the drivers do not have any money or change on them. Good to know, because once you enter and don't have the right amount of coins you'll meet a lot of nasty faces behind you. Travelling by the Bueons Aires bus network is a thrilling, stressing experience. Act fast, pretend you'll live there by simply saying "ochenta por favor", meaning 1 trip of 80 centavos please. If you pay for more you just simply say "dos de ochenta", "tres de ochenta" etc.
Getting out of the bus is also something you'll have to plan many times. The busses are many times loaded. So with the alleyways jammed with people it is difficult to get out fast!!
