Richwood Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeRichwood is in the center of it all. Lush beautiful forests surrounding the city but still within an hours drive of West Virignia's major cities: Charleston, Beckley, Clarksburg, and a few of Virginia's: Roanoke, Salem, Staunton. The city plays host to numerous events and festivals throughout the year making this one fo West Virginia's year round cities to be in.
Great people and a rich historical background which dates back to when the Virginia and the state of West Virginia was founded keep this city on the map.
In recent years though hard times have fell upon the city. Due to the first Wal-Mart in Nicholas County and Rte 19 the city has seen better days. The city still boasts alot of opportunity that surrounding communities don't have. Right now the city is in the first few steps of getting a much needed dam. This dam will provide more recreation to an already well equipped recreational town with a large lake that should become West Virginia's largest as well as producing electricity and clean drinking water.
The town experiences all types of weather from snow in the winter and rain in the spring. Temperatrures are very comfortable with winter temps around the 33 degree F mark and summer temperatures hitting around the 80 degree mark.
City also hosts great education still with have an elementary, junior high, and high school all within a min drive from anywhere in town. The junior high was named a Blue Ribbon school in 2003 and the high school boasts one of the best academic and sports programs in its section of the state. The high school recently just became a single A school, down from AA, this past year due to decrease enrollment. Student teacher ratios are also one of the best in the state. Education is great in the Richwood area with high number of high school graduates making their way to West Virginia's colleges and universities.
