When to Go in SeattleEdit This
Spring Road Trip
The Cascade Loop is a 2 day road trip over Steven Pass and the North Cross State Highway. The SR 20 stretch is open from Spring to early Winter but if often closed during the winter. Driving the Cascade Loop by car takes time but offers the most rewarding scenery in the state of Washington because you will drive through towns that look as if they are straight out of a western movie. Also, you'll get to see the majestic Columbia River.
May FestivitiesSeattle celebrates the arrival of the spring with many yachting events. The first Saturday in May, the official start date of yachting season in Seattle, is celebrated with a fleet of boat sailing from Lake Union to Lake Washington. Other festivities in May include street fairs in the University District and the celebration of Norwegian Constitution Day on May 17 in the Ballard district.
Memorial Day Weekend
Families visiting Seattle will enjoy the Northwest Folklife Festival that showcases traditional and folk arts of more than 100 countries. People of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world are in Seattle to provide music, dancing, craft exhibits and other demonstrations of customs from around the world. Another great event during Memorial Day Weekend is the Bumbershoot--an arts festival that takes place at the Seattle Center.
A great event in June is the Fremont Fair, which is similar to the Northwest Folklife Festival but it is less publicized. The Fremont Fair includes a parade and lots of live music.
Mid July is the setting for the Bite of Seattle Food festival. There's also the 23-day Seattle Seafair that marks the start of all Summer festivals in Seattle with several street parades and hydroplane races on Lake Washington.
Being a port city, the highlight of Christmas celebration in Seattle is the Christmas Cruise, a water parade of many colorfully illuminated boats. This is a nice event for couples of all ages to share a romantic moment.
Seattle is a perfect hub for visiting nearby skiing and snowboarding spots. Snoqualmie Pass is an hour east on the Interstate 90 highway and Stevens Pass is an amazing resort about 2 hours east of Seattle on Highway 2. Farther east of Stevens Pass is Mission Ridge, which is near Wenatchee.
