Located on the Kitsap Peninsula, the major claims to fame in this quiet area are Naval Base Kitsap, divided into two bases, Bangor, the Trident Submarine Base in Silverdale, and Bremerton, home to Bremerton Naval Base and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Attractions in Kitsap include the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, the USS Turner Joy in Bremerton, Old Downtown Port Orchard and the Norwegian-modeled Downtown Poulsbo. Other shopping areas include Silverdale, which boasts Kitsap Mall housing traditional stores anchored by Macy's, JC Penney, Sears, Kohl's, Barnes & Noble, and Cost Plus World Market. To fill out the big-box retail compliment, you'll find Costco, Home Depot, PetSmart, Circuit City, Best Buy, Old Navy, and in Poulsbo a brand-new Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Seattle is an hour drive down through Tacoma, or you can take one of Seattle's famous auto/passenger ferries from Bremerton or Bainbridge Island straight into the heart of Downtown Seattle.
