Provo is a large and thriving city located along the Wasatch Front, the section of the Rocky Mountains in northcentral Utah. It's home to Brigham Young University, the famous school run by the LDS (Mormon) Church. The nearby mountains offer rugged hiking and climbing, and great skiing at Sundance, the ski resort owned by Robert Redford.

Provo is perhaps the most "Mormon" town in Utah; as such, nightlife is decidedly low key, with little of the debauchery one experiences to the north in Salt Lake City. Still, there are plenty of nearby attractions to keep a visitor busy. The scenery is wonderful, and for the outdoor recreation lover, the area offers much.

For the hiking and alpine crowd, Mount Timpanogos is a draw. This massive peak offers big mountain challenge and serious mountaineering opportunities. The surrounding national forest lands feature many campgrounds and picnic areas, and stands of aspen put on great fall color shows.  The Park Service also offers tours through Timpanogos Cave, a vast underground limestone cave similar to Carlsbad Caverns or Lehman Caves.

Utah Lake State Park is located at nearby Utah Lake, a large freshwater lake that offers boating and fishing possibilities. The great basin country to the west features silver mining ghost towns and the desolate beauty of desert mountains. The Pony Express trail also runs nearby, and can be followed with a Jeep or SUV.
