Price Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seePrice, Utah is the home of the College of Eastern Utah and a prime site for fossil digs and research. Discoveries include the Trovosaur and Utah Raptor.
The earlier history of the town is tied in with mining and railroading. When the Denver and Rio Grande Western decided to build a line to Salt Lake City, they routed it through the area and up Price Canyon. Coal was abundant in the area, which led to the development of many coal mines in the area, and the naming of the county as "Carbon County". The mining attracted many immigrants who were non-Mormon, making Carbon County a hotbed of the Democratic Party in Utah.
Mining and railroading are still important, but times have changed. Price today is a pleasant midsize town in a scenic part of central Utah. Surrounded by gorgeous scenery, Price today attracts people seeking the laid back outdoors way of life in the west. It's a handy base camp for exploring places like scenic Ninemile Canyon, or the Tavaputs Plateau. Numerous outdoor recreation opportunities are nearby on surrounding BLM and National Forest lands.
