Killeen Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeKilleen, in Bell County, central Texas, is not one of those places you would visit if you were a tourist/traveller. It is certainly a very unique place, and has experienced enormous growth over the past 5 years, and even moreso now since the opening of the new "Killeen-Ft. Hood Regional Airport" in 2004. Killeen is within easy reach of Austin, only an hour away by car, and Dallas-Ft.Worth and San Antonio, each about 2.5 hours away.
With it's close neighbor Fort Hood, the biggest military installation in the US, Killeen offers numerous interesting sites to see and things to do. The Military Museum is one such place certainly worth a visit.
Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake are just a short drive from Killeen, and a must-see if you are in this region. There are lots of activities, water sports, picnic areas, fishing, and an abundance of wildlife to see. Plus, if you are in the region around Christmas time, you must visit the Incredible Christmas Light Display at Belton Lake: it is spectacular.
Harker Heights has the "Cactus Canyon Club" which is a great place to visit for a bit of "Good ol' Country Music" while you enjoy the nightlife atmosphere.
