Land Between the Lakes
Land Between the Lakes is a 170,000-acre national recreational area. It's located about 90 miles from Nashville and is easily accessible with a two hour drive. The scenery is so beautiful that you'll barely even notice the driving time. Land Between the Lakes is actually located in both Tennessee and Western Kentucky. It's exciting to know that you've been to two states in one day. While here visitors can hike, fish, go horseback riding, and view wildlife. Additionally, there is an elk and bison prairie. For $5 cars can drive through the area and see the majestic animals in their natural habitat. Also, a planetarium is at Land Between the Lakes. An admission of about $4 a person will allow you to look through telescopes and gaze at the stars. While at Land Between the Lakes you can view farms and country land in their purest forms. Families will absolutely love it here and travelers who want some country air will adore it as well.
Jack Daniel Distillery
The Jack Daniel's Distillery is the oldest registered distillery in the US. It's located in the quaint town of Lynchburg, Tennessee and is a lovely 90 minute drive through countryside. Travelers can reach this day-trip attraction by driving their own car or by bus tour which will pick you up from some of the Nashville hotels. While at the distillery a tour guide will take you around the place that makes the famous whiskey. You'll hear of the process that creates the potent drink and some history of the actual distillery. The whole attraction is very interesting and even more entertaining is the fact that Lynchburg is a dry town. The place that makes whiskey is legally not allowed to drink it. Your wallets will appreciate the fact that the tour is free. If you have some extra time, walk around the town. It's truly a small town and has kept that original feel. This day-trip is great for any traveler.
Lookout Mountain is located near Chattanooga and a little over two hours away from Nashville. Driving your own vehicle is recommended. As you drive up the mountain roads the views below are unbelievable. It's said that you can see seven states from the views atop the mountain. While here you can experience Ruby Falls. It's the highest underground waterfall at 145-feet high. Also, visitors to Lookout Mountain can ride the Incline Railway, which is the world's steepest passenger railway. It will cost $45 to experience everything on Lookout Mountain. This is wonderful for all travelers, but seniors might have an issue with the walking distance.
