Newport Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeNewport in the late 1800's and early 1900's was the summer playground for America's wealthy families. Such families as the Vanderbilts had huge summer mansions (their summer cottages) constructed along the Newport rugged coastline. They would throw lavish summer parties, trying to outdo the others, play tennis at the Newport Tennis Club on grass, or swim at the Newport Beach (which is a public beach). Several of these mansions are open to the public.
