Akron Travel Guide

Akron, the "City of Invention" and the "Rubber Captial of the World" was the birthplace and home of the rubber industry through the 1970s.  Today, Akron is a cultural and polymer research center hosting the Polymer Science Institute, Akron Art Museum, the University of Akron, the Civic Theater, the National Inventor's Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame 20 minutes to the south in Canton.

Akron is also home to several world-class events.  The NEC Invitational Golf tournament and the Soap Box Derby are held here.  Akron is also home to the Ohio Ballet, The Akron Symphony Orchestra, and E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall which brings Broadway plays and many world famous entertainers to the City. Akron is also home to the Akron Aeros, the Cleveland Indians' AA baseball team.
