From April 1 through October 30 the zoo is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and from November 1 through March 31 closing time is 4:00 p.m. Animals from 2 continents, North America and Africa, can be viewed on nearly 500 acres of land. Visitors will see animals ranging from polar bears to zebras. The zoo has 3 different restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat and several snack stands scattered about the zoo for light refreshments. A carousel and a kids' play zone are on-site as well. This is a fulfilling and exciting day trip for many travelers, especially families.

A step into Edenton is really a step into the past. Located over 2 hours from Raleigh, Edenton was the first permanent settlement in North Carolina. Architecture from the late 1700s still remains part of the city's charm and the city prides itself on several restorations of original buildings. Visitors can tour the historic district and many of the resorted homes. A walk along the waterfront is both beautiful and historical. Major Euorpean trading took place in Edenton during its earlier years. The countryside surrounding Edenton is dotted with many plantations that are equally interesting to visit. A day trip to Edenton is worth the drive and will leave you in awe of the beauty of the town.

Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island is a 3 hour drive from Raleigh but the serenity that will fill your mind after a day on the island is worth the drive. Visitors can take a ferry to get to the island and since cars are not allowed on the island visitors can get around on foot, by bike or golf cart. Visitors can also enjoy the beaches, kayak the various creeks, shop in unique boutiques and enjoy a delicious meal of Carolina seafood at one of the many restaurants on the island. Travelers can't help but feel relaxed because of the peace and calm the island exudes.
