Lake Ontario whitecaps leaving the Irondeqouit Bay

Home of Kodak, Bausch and Lomb, the original home of the Xerox corpoation, the Rochester Red Wings Baseball Team (Jump-off point of Cal Ripkin), the Rochester Americans Hockey Team, the Rochester Rhinos Soccer Team, the High Falls Brewery (Formerly the Genesee Brewing Company), the George Eastman House/Eastman School of Music, the Rochester Museum & Science Center featuring the Strasenburg Planetarium, the Susan B. Anthony House, the Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum, and a host of restaurants and cultural events too numerous to mention.

Just south of Rochester are the world-renowned " Finger Lakes ". Here you will find the best that New York State wineries have to offer and some of the best parks you could ever imagine visiting such as Letchworth and Stony Brook with vista views of the gorges along the Genesee River . The best time to visit is in the fall between late September and October when the grape harvest is under way and the wineries are offering free tours and wine tasting.

Approximately 8 miles southeast of Rochester in the town of Pittsford you will find a harbor to the famous Erie Canal.  The historic canal was the original highway of the early 19th. century prior to the railroad boon.  Explore its many shops and restaunts, relax on the dock or take a ride on the canal aboard one of the many tour boats and follow the route used by barges of commerce over 100 years ago.  Interestingly. in a time gone by, the canal actually flowed over the Genesee River through the heart of Downtown Rochester on an aqueduct that was later converted to what is now the Broad Street Brdge.

This time of year in the Rochester area is also the most spectacular. This is when the leaves on the trees change from summer green to the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of fall. Guests from around the world come to this region for its breath-taking scenery and the home-style hospitality and warmth of its many bed and breakfast style inns.

Winter in Rochester however, is not a time to hibernate. Rochester 's "Cold Rush" offers festivals and attractions all winter long which include a chili festival on the shores of Lake Ontario to skiing down man-made slopes on Main Street . You might be freezing your a!! off but this author can guarantee, you will be smiling!

Come see Rochester for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
