Eating Out
Edit ThisEating in New York is a wondrous thing. You can find plenty of New York restaurants that are fairly inexpensive and uniformly good. There are also a lot of ethnic New York restaurants, resulting in a great diversity that surpasses most cities.
It's best to avoid tourist areas like Little Italy and Times Square if you want to enjoy the best values. Some hip areas to find great New York restaurants at budget-friendly prices are Chinatown, the East Village, and the Lower East Side.

Le Bernardin
Edit ThisLe Bernardin
You may not find a better seafood restaurant in New York, or maybe even the world. Food doesn't get better than the seared rare yellowtail, steamed bok choy, in a marinated citrus and shallot vinaigrette. Chef Eric Ripert's tuna tartare always exhilarates, its Asian seasoning a welcome exotic touch. Among main courses that shine are the steamed striped bass with roasted foie gras; pan-roasted codfish, sweet-roasted garlic, and chorizo essence; and crusted cod, served on a bed of haricots verts with potatoes and diced tomatoes. The formal service is impeccable, as is the more..

Patsy Grimaldi's Pizzeria
Edit ThisTruly great brick-oven pizza with thin crust and fresh ingredients. You get fresh meats and veggies and slices of real mozzarella, not the processed, shredded stuff. Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge (or take the A or C to High Street) and fill yourself up. Only whole pies (no slices) and cash only.

Pisticci
Edit ThisA small, basement Italian restaurant on the Upper West Side in the Columbia University neighborhood. Cheap eats and an operatic waitstaff who attend school at the Manhattan School of Music down the street during the day make for an enjoyable evening meal for locals.

Bukhara Grill
Edit ThisBukhara Grill NYC
Bukhara Grill is offering New York a new dining experience...flavors of the long-forgotten Northwest frontiers of India.
The restaurant offers a very spacious, rustic, yet highly sophisticated interior with an old-fashioned stonewall finish. Hand-woven Persian carpets are elegantly draped from the ceilings, and the atmosphere as a whole does indeed satisfy the yearnings of a mind bent toward whimsical creativity.
A passionate team of servers and chefs, who believe in absolute perfection, help to enhance your dining experience to a higher degree of satisfaction, a more..

Trailer Park Lounge
Edit ThisTrailer Park Lounge NYC
We found this great place after seeing it on the Food Network. When you walk in it looks like you are going back in time to an old trailer park. Lots of Elvis stuff and even a trailer. Good food that was served up fast with sweet potato fries. I myself am not a fan of sweet potatoes, but these were really good. Beer from a can or a few on tap. Typical American foods like burgers, dogs, grilled cheese. Inexpensive fun place to eat. You'll probably want to bring your camera.

44 Restaurant
Edit ThisAnchoring the long lobby at its farthest end – and removed somewhat from its bustling activity – '44' is a chicly understated enclave with spacious curved velvet banquettes, providing the perfect setting – morning, noon and night – to enjoy outstanding cuisine. The critically acclaimed '44' restaurant serves innovative American cuisine.

Sylvia's Soul Food Restaurant
Edit ThisSylvia’s is hands down the best soul food restaurant in the city of New York, if not the world. Former President Bill Clinton, Reverend Al Sharpton, and the infamous Bill O’Reilly are just a few of the famous people that have eaten at Sylvia’s. The menu features items such as sweet potatoes, barbecued ribs, chicken, spicy greens, and more. With room for more than 450 guests, Sylvia’s Soul Food Restaurant takes up a good portion of a city block.

Bombay Palace
Edit ThisThey do set menus and also a set buffet. This is an upmarket emporium as you might guess from the location - prices reflect this fact. For a meal that you would pay $30 elsewhere, you pay $45+
That said, the food is consistent and I have revisited many times

Vatan's
Edit ThisInteresting venue that's worth a visit.
Ask the waiter to make recommendations and they do just that.
Very reasonably priced - be sure to book in advance. The decor alone is worth the effort of visiting.
Can't recall if it's vegetarian only, it may be.

Apple Restaurant
Edit ThisThis restaurant is really a pan asain type of restaurant. It's really spacious so it seats large groups but is also private enough for intimate gatherings. The bar area is very cool and the drinks are unique and quite tasty. It was a good place to go because it's near the shopping area, NYU and Washington Sq park.

Sushi of Gari
Edit ThisYou'll have to get in line to eat at this small Upper East Side restaurant and pay a pretty penny to boot. This is a place where the attention is placed directly upon the food and how good it's supposed to taste. This is a very small restaurant and I would not recommend it for large groups. Be sure to call ahead and get a reservation.

Big Wong
Edit ThisGreat authentic chinese food, cheap prices, no atmosphere. The duck and roast pork are delicious, noodle dishes like spicy beef chow fun are fabulous, and you can eat well for about $5 a person. Just don't expect a quiet meal and be ready to share a table with asian locals.
