Edit ThisThe City of Buffalo, in its close proximity to the Canadian border, has the Peace Bridge as its primary crossing, into the Town of Fort Erie.
Locals are well known to cross the border frequently, and it's rarely heard that a longtime resident has not crossed the border to at least Fort Erie.
If there is possibility of crossing the border into Canada, keeping your passport (if foreign of United States or Canada), or birth certificate available would be highly recommended.

The best view of Niagara Falls is on the CANADIAN SIDE, on River Road (near Queens Park or Clifton Hill.

With the drastic changes in currency rates as of recently, so businesses will not accept Canadian currency in transactions. Best, is to use your credit card to obtain the best exchange rate from your bank. Keep in mind that some institutions may carry a foreign exchange charge. Check for details.

Downtown Buffalo, with the exception of Chippawa Street and the Theater District sees very few people on the streets after dark. It is recommended to travel with more than two people, with at least one male.
Panhandling is starting to disappear, but you may occasionally come across one that is able to elude police easily. DO NOT let the person know you have much money on you and do not give the person money.

With the close proximity to the border of US/Canada, the Federal TSA (Department of Homeland Security), New York State and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority have implemented spot checks at Metro rail stations and Amtrak Stations during unannounced times. Spot checks may include checking personal identification, baggage and other personal items.
Persons not in compliance with terms of transit worthiness will not be allowed to board trains and or buses.
Cooperation will be necessary, so allow extra time if you are concerned about missing trains due to time constraints.
