Gallup is THE Indian arts and craft hub of the galaxy. No kidding. There are over 70 retail and wholesale outlets that deal extensively in Indian made jewelry, baskets, pottery, rugs, paintings, and any other item that might be associated with one of the Indian Nations of the southwest. It can be overwhelming. You want to buy genuine rez style red moccasins with the white soles like you saw at the Intertribal Ceremonial? You can get them here.

This is perhaps the best place in the state for unique footwear that you WON'T find anywhere else. They have a fantastic selection of western boots of all kinds, with needle toes, wild stitching, cool colors, high and low heels. Be prepared to pay accordingly, however. They also stock the traditional Navajo "Ke lichii", or red moccasins, the ones with white soles.

Their ad says "come to where the Indians trade," and they aren't making it up. The store is a classic old trading post, right on Route 66 in the downtown. Go inside, and be blown away by the sheer overwhelming volume of "Indian stuff" that they have. Go back out, take a long break, then go back inside to look some more.
