of 2000, its population is 16,530. It is also known as "the Rose City."
The earliest European settlers in Madison arrived around the year 1715. After the Civil War, Madison's growth increased massively. The railroads located there provided great transportation for farm produce. Soon, a very large rose company was formed in Madison, thus making its current nickname "the Rose City.
