Mill Falls Marketplace Cupola

Mill Falls Marketplace Cupola

Adam Hlasny

Meredith is a quaint small town at the northwest corner of Lake Winnipesaukee (a.k.a. "The Big Lake") .   One can arrive here by boat, car, or train to enjoy shopping, great dining, and life on the lake.   Highlights include the town dock area, where locals mix with tourists to create a bustling atmosphere, especially during summer and autumn months, and a small, walkable downtown full of New Hampshire character.

Meredith was blessed by a beautiful natural setting and has successfully preserved the small-town atmosphere that is lacking in so many commercialized places these days.  Many visitors choose to just relax by the water on warm summer days, or explore around Mill Falls Marketplace, an industrial revolution-era wooden mill restored into shops and dining in the early 1980's.

The town of Meredith is a laid-back place and a great starting point for exploring the Lakes Region.  A drive south on US Rte. 3 rewards travellers with scenic views of the big lake, which are especially awe-inspiring when the leaves change color in October.  Driving northeast on US Rte. 25 leads to the tiny towns of Center Harbor and Moultonborough, which have increasingly become lakeside getaways.  Continuing past Moultonborough and taking a right on NH Rte 109 South leads down the eastern side of the lake and winds up in Wolfeboro, "The Oldest Summer Resort in America."
