Ely Travel Guide

Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see

Ely is one of those mythical little western cities. It feels stuck in another time, when the world outside the Great Basin seemed as far away as the moon, and all that mattered was the little town, the mines, and the railroad.

Surrounded by rugged mountains and great basin scenery, Ely has the wild country so desired by the outdoor recreation crowd. Nearby Great Basin National Park features fantastic mountain terrain, no crowds, and great hiking and recreation. But the old city itself is a fascinating place to linger. Check out the old Hotel Nevada, a classic Nevada style gambling hall and hotel complex from another time. Take a ride on the Ghost Train and experience steam railroading and vintage transportation. Get off the train and step back into time at the Ely Renaissance Village. Take the ART WALK which highlights over 20 murals and sculptures financed by the Ely Renaissance Society ( www.elyrenaisance.com ) . Ely also boasts several legal sporting houses in a thriving red light district.

For more fun, get out and about to the region's many ghost towns. You'll find plenty in the area to keep you intrigued and entertained.
