Red Lodge Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeRed Lodge is a small tourist town at the base of the Beartooth Mountains and the world famous "Cooke City Highway". This stretch of road on the way to the North East entrance of Yellowstone National Park is one of the most scenic in the U.S. It's construction was called one of the "wonders of the world". Recently the road has been redone making it much wider and safer. The views are still just as spectacular.
Red Lodge has a famous ski run on Red Lodge Mountain. Golfing, fishing, hiking and camping are just a few of the activities. The world famous Home of Champions Rodeo is held every year on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of July. Daily parades down Main street and live PRCA action at the rodeo grounds. Every August the town celebrates it's melting pot ethnic heritage with a Festival of Nations celebration.
Arts, Crafts and Food bazzares line the Main street and every evening the Civic Center has entertainment from a designated culture. Red Lodge was once a thriving coal mining community and this drew a large number of varied nationalities. In the '50's there was a major mine disaster and there never was a return to coal mining as it once was.
Now tourism and the local ranching community is what sustains the town.
