Edit ThisDowntown St Louis begins with the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial situated at the foot of the Mississippi River. Aside from providing a spectacular view from its observation windows 630 feet above the ground, the Gateway Arch also houses the Museum of Westward Expansion at ground level.
Located with easy walking distance of the Arch is a restaurant and nightclub sector know as Lacledes Landing. Its cobble stoned streets provide a reminder of days past.
Forest Park is a popular attraction. It owns the distinction of being the largest urban park in the country. The land that played home to the 1904 Worlds Fair now offers visitors plenty to see and do. It holds a history museum, zoo, art museum, municipal opera, golf courses, the Dwight Davis tennis center, the Science museum and planetarium, a massive running trail network, and much more. Saturdays and Sundays typically find the park teeming with people.
Beautiful new Busch Stadium houses the St Louis Cardinals baseball team. It's design is a throwback to the old style baseball parks with intimate seating but while offering fans all of the modern amenities. Games days find the seats bathed in a sea of red as Cardinal fans show their color.

Missouri Botanical Garden

Not your average botanical garden. It is probably one of the top five botanical gardens in the world.
One of the highlights of the garden is a section devoted to representing appropriate home garden arrangements for the current season.
The garden has grown so much that some of its research offices are located a few blocks away. The friendly staff will often let you in to see the behind-the-scenes greenhouses. There is a large herbarium as well.

Basilica of St. Louis, King
Edit ThisBasilica of St. Louis, King

The old cathedral of the city of St. Louis was constructed from 1831 to 1834 for the new diocese of St. Louis. It was the first Catholic cathedral constructed west of the Mississippi River. This neo-classical structure was the cathedral of the city until 1914. In 1961, Pope John XXIII declared the chuch a basilica. The church is still in use today. There is also a small museum in the chuch dedicated to the history of Catholic St. Louis.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial
Edit ThisA favourite shot from the base of the arch, that every ameteur photographer can achieve.
The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, a 91-acre park on the banks of the Mississippi river, is centrepiece St Louis. Although the National Park in itself is tiny compared to others on the nation-wide roster its attractions include the superbly stunning Gateway Arch and a courthouse famous for the historically important Dredd Scott decision.
Designed to reflect St Louis’ role as gateway to the west, superlatives are necessary in abundance to describe the greatness of the Gateway Arch. It is a feat of engineering ingenuity.
