Rolla Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeNestled in the foothills of the Ozarks, you will find Rolla --
the "Middle of Everywhere". Rolla is located at the
junction of I-44, US Highway 63 and Missouri Highway 72. It is
100 miles southwest of St. Louis, 110 miles northeast of Springfield
and 69 miles south of Jefferson City, the state capital.
Rolla is the home of the University of Missouri at Rolla. This was established as a land grant college as Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. While not as well known in the United States as MIT, UMR is well regarded by the rest of the world.
There is a wine growing region nearby with a tasting room in St. James, few miles east. The Missouri Highway Patrol has its training center here.
Phelps County, of which Rolla is the county seat, boasts more miles of trout streams than any other county in the state. There is also easy access to some of the finest recreational opportunities in the nation, from the famous Ozark float streams to the Branson, Missouri entertainment complex to the excitement of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Rolla is sometimes referred to as the city in the "Middle of Everywhere." This is almost literally true in the state and the contiguous 48 state.
