Jefferson City Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeJefferson City, located on the Missouri River nearly halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City, is the state capitol of Missouri. Tours of the capitol and the Governor's Mansion are available.
Lincoln University is both a regional university and a historically Black university.
Katy Trail State Park (a former railroad converted for bicycle usage) runs on the north side of the Missouri River. The airport is also on the northside of the river. Since the north side is a flood plain, only a few businesses remain open on the mostly abandonded north side.
The Capitol Mall is on the west side of town (Truman Road exit from highway 50). Major shopping districts exist along Missouri Blvd (Business 50). Downtown Jefferson City, which includes the capital and Governor's Mansion, is just north of 50-63 and east of 54 along High St and Capital St (parking garage on Madison in between High and Capital). The Missouri Regional Library marks the eastern end of downtown on High Street. Hotels can be found along US 54 and 50.
Local stuff: Central Dairy, just south of Madison and US 50-63, offers an ice cream shop.
To get here: Motorists traveling from the west or east would probably take I-70 and then turn south on US 63 in Columbia or westbound US 54 in Kingdom City. 54 also provides 4 lane access to the Lake of the Ozarks. US 50 is only four lane near and through Jefferson City from St. Martins to the 50-63 intersection near Linn. (Construction on a new 4 lane tract from St. Martins to near California, MO is scheduled to be complete by early 2008.)
Amtrack to St. Louis and Kansas City is also available.
