Hattiesburg Travel Guide

Hattiesburg is a college town with a population just over 100,000 when school is in session. Hattiesburg is home to the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey College. It is home to a large retail district, a nice downtown area, a free area zoo, and the state's only working drive-in theater. It is home to such  places as Java Werks (European Coffee House) and the Thirsty Hippo  thirstyhippo.com where several local or national bands play every thurs.-sat.. It is only around 1.5-2 hours away from New Orleans and the cultural influence of New Orleans is definitely visible. Hattiesburg is also home to many good restaurants. There is something for everyone here in this city! The University of Southern Mississippi often pulls in international renowned musicians, such as Wynton Marsalis and Doc Severensen. USM's music programs are also top notch and have many fine groups that perform regulary to the public.
